Differences between Adhesive SOLAS Tape and Sew-on SOLAS Tape?

1.Differences in backing and application scenarios

Adhesive SOLAS Tape features a backing of pressure-sensitive adhesive and release paper, attaching to surfaces via the adhesive. It suits life-saving gear with relatively flat, clean surfaces and high demand for easy installation, such as smooth thermal suits and lifebuoys. Its adhesive nature allows quick application without extra tools or complex processes, handy for emergencies or small-scale repairs.

Sew-on SOLAS Tape uses fabric as its base material, joined to other materials by sewing. The fabric base has good sewability, able to withstand stitching tension without damage. Suitable for life jackets, it endures external forces from large, frequent body movements, ensuring sustained visibility.

Cleaning the bonding surface

Before using the Adhesive SOLAS Tape, ensure the bonding surface is clean, dry and free of oil, dust, water, wax and other impurities for tight adhesion and optimal performance. Meanwhile, the surface should be as flat as possible; overly rough or uneven surfaces will reduce the effective contact area between the tape and the carrier, impairing bonding effect.

Adhesion suggestions

During application, avoid air bubbles in the tape. Start from one end, apply the marine reflective tape slowly and steadily to the surface, and gently squeeze from the starting end to the other with a scraper or similar tool to expel air. Bubbles not only affect appearance but may also cause partial poor adhesion, reducing the tape’s service life and reflectivity.

Allow full curing after adhesion

After application, avoid external pulling, friction or bending of the marine reflective tape. Give it sufficient time to cure to prevent affecting adhesion effect and service life.
